Apolline and Thomas chose Château de Valinches to celebrate their September wedding, not far from home — less than two hours from Lyon. A regional château, but the kind that holds its own against anywhere — restored with care, set in grounds that hold autumn well, with the kind of architecture that doesn’t fight the light.
Château de Valinches is a venue that works beautifully in any season. Even in the rain, the place keeps so much charm and offers a warm, welcoming setting. The weather took nothing away from the day — quite the opposite. Rain inside a château is not a problem, it’s a frame. The interiors do what the gardens can’t: hold an entire celebration in a tighter, warmer composition. The light becomes softer, the gestures slower, the dinner more present.
Planning was entrusted to Pur Bonheur Wedding Planning, with Charlène at the helm, and everything unfolded smoothly, calmly and with great humour. Working alongside a planner who actually anchors the day instead of stretching it is rare, and it changes everything for the photographs. The rhythm becomes natural. The light hours land where they’re supposed to. The couple is not chased.
The day kept its natural rhythm — as usual, I’m tempted to say. It’s something I notice across the weddings I photograph between the Rhône and the Loire: the couples who choose nearby venues, who don’t perform their wedding, tend to give the photographs everything they need.
As a wedding photographer between the Rhône and the Loire, I particularly love these kinds of days — sincere, elegant, with no unnecessary staging — and this château makes me want to come back.
An autumn château wedding doesn’t need much. A couple at ease, a planner with humour, a place that’s been loved into shape by the people who run it. Apolline and Thomas brought all three.
A small personal favourite for Apolline’s dress, and for her presence in general.
If you’re imagining a regional château wedding — autumn, winter, spring or summer — between the Rhône and the Loire, or somewhere further out, feel free to reach out whenever feels right.
